One of the best opening paragraphs to any article I've read in a long long time. Bravo.

" There are still places in America where you can disappear long enough to remember who you are before the machine started selling it back to you. "

Same! I wasn't planning on reading the whole thing yet, but then I read that opener.

Fantastic. 👏. I read this right after I heard Lee lost at his attempt to undermine the GSENM management plan. For now.

Truly an exceptional piece - in style and impact. Drew me right back to being at the end of the Hole in the Rock last month.

Wow. I feel guilty of sometimes thinking "Man, they ought to really pave this road." when the point is that it being unpaved is part of the overall experience... in a world of AI, Doordash, Uber and endless optimization, "doing hard things" or feeling inconvenienced is an antidote indeed.

One of my favorite places to just be. Love this article. Southern Utah is sacred.

So well said! I often say I think we are sleepwalking into oblivion. Each paved dirt road, filled in wetland replaced with a stormwater drainage basin, every mature tree replaced with a 6 foot tall twig and every “perfect” lawn just keeps chipping away at what we actually need.
